Skylanders Academy at the Discovery Cube Orange County Review

By Annie Young, Publisher Mom for Macaroni Kid Santa Ana October 13, 2017
As a family of 4, we are always busy. My husband and I both work full time, but we try to keep our kids busy and provide them with fun weekend activities. Some days, though, my kids enjoy just being in their pajamas, with a bowl of buttery popcorn, and watching their cartoons. With so many shows out there, we tend to get overwhelmed. Surely, we cannot preview ALL of them! Can you imagine our delight when we were invited to go to Discovery Cube to preview Skylanders Academy? Yes, please.

Skylanders Unite!

On October 7, 2017, our very own Discovery Cube Orange County hosted Skylanders Academy, the action-comedy series from Netflix and Activision Blizzard Studios that follows the heroic adventures of Spyro, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Jet-Vac, Pop Fizz, and their team of young warriors as they protect the Skylands universe from evil-doers.

We were treated to:
 A special presentation featuring Mr. Chris Neuhahn, Supervising Director from Activision Blizzard Studios, who taught us how to draw one of the characters from Skylanders Academy.
 A fun craft where we created our own Skylander and answered the question, “What’s your superpower?”
 The first episode of Skylanders Academy Season 2 at the Discovery Theater!

This awesome event kept my kids excited, engaged, and active. My 6-year-old, pictured above, developed a new found skill in illustrating. He sat through the whole presentation - my son, who cannot keep still, sat still!

At home, it became suspiciously quiet. We glance over at our kids, curled on the couch with their iPad, binge watching the first season of Skylanders. They found their bliss.

On a side note, what do you think of my Spyro? Or more like, my version of Spyro's grouchy uncle? Hey, I tried.

*editor's note: Although I was offered tickets to attend this event, all opinions are my own.
