When you join Vista, you are joining a family that cares deeply about meeting each student's academic and socio-emotional learning needs. All Vista Heritage staff are extensively trained in and regularly facilitate Way of Council, which is a practice that promotes empathy and mutual respect through “circle talk” prompts. All Vista Heritage classes practice Way of Council each week. Way of Council is one of the many practices, Vista Heritage uses to educate the whole child.
Vista Heritage teachers utilize research-based best practices to engage all students in an active classroom where students learn through collaboration, cooperation, critical thinking, and creativity. All Vista Heritage teachers are trained in facilitating Kagan Structures, which makes learning an active process. During a Kagan Structure, when a teacher asks the class a question, instead of one student answering the question for the class, students will discuss the question in pairs or small groups in a structured format. In this Kagan classroom, all students are actively engaged in the discussion and learning.
Vista Heritage is also making a shift to educating for global competence. As a partner of the International Studies Schools Network, Vista Heritage Global Academy transforms the school experience through educating kids how to 1) Investigate the world, so students become aware and curious about how the World works, 2) Recognize and weigh different perspectives, especially those other than their own, 3) Communicate their ideas in a clear and effective manner, both verbally and non-verbally to various authentic audiences, and 4) Equip them with the skills and confidence to take action and make a difference in their community or do their part in changing the World.
